Barely a quarter-century old, sustainable consumption is now emerging as a leading field of research and practice. The social sciences, including economics, sociology, anthropology, political science and public policy, have been at the forefront of these developments. Sustainable consumption—alongside its siblings, sustainable produc- tion and sustainable development—is now recognized as an important field of interdisciplinary research linking virtually all social scientific disciplines.
